The National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF) has submitted testimony supporting SB 26-066, legislation that would establish important safeguards for compounded GLP-1 medications. The rapid increase in compounded GLP-1 weight-loss medications raises serious concerns in the medical community. Often marketed online as alternatives to FDA-approved treatments, these products may not meet the same safety, manufacturing, or dosing standards required of approved medications. NHHF urges lawmakers to support SB 26-066, which would strengthen oversight and help ensure patients have access to safe, properly regulated treatments. “Patients deserve safe, transparent, and properly regulated medications,” said Dr. Elena Rios, President of the National Hispanic Health Foundation. “As demand for GLP-1 medications continues to grow, it is essential that safeguards are in place to protect patients and ensure that the treatments they receive meet appropriate safety and quality standards.”
